The KORG Prophecy was a close second and applied physical modeling technology in addition to VA, also released in 1995. The Roland JP-8000 came out in 1996 followed by Yamaha with the AN1X and Access with the Virus in 1997. Novation followed with the Supernova in 1998 and Quasimidi with the Polymorph in 1999 although the Polymorph is more of a PCM VA hybrid which contained samples for some of it's oscillators. I remember when each came out.
